JOB TITLE: Managing Director

REPORTS TO: Board of Directors

 

JOB SUMMARY:                                                                                                           

In accordance with the established vision and mission of the Central Okanagan Heritage Society (COHS), a non-profit society, the Managing Director provides oversight for all the operations, facilities maintenance and rentals, projects and programs. The Managing Director supervises all Society staff and contractors.

This is a part time hourly position.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                      

Overall management and oversight of Society staff and contractors, including but not limited to: Office Administrator, Property Caretaker and Gardener(s), City of Kelowna Heritage Grants Program Contractor and Volunteers.

Oversight of the rental of Benvoulin Heritage Church and Reid Hall, including advising on opportunities to increase earned revenue from rentals.

Management oversight for the other properties including McIver House and McDougall House.

Provide management oversight for communications and marketing activities of the Society including the newsletter, website and other related activities.

Develop, collaborate and/or participate in community engagement activities with key stakeholders and other historic and heritage groups including the City of Kelowna.

Attend City Council meetings when required,

Represent the Society within the Central Okanagan Culture, Arts & Heritage community,

Assist in the creation of the monthly agenda for the Board meetings, attend all regular Board meetings and assistant as a resource to the Board and its committees.

Financial Management of the Society, including:

  • Managing payment of all invoices

  • Corporate Filings

  • Payroll

  • Budgets – in collaboration with the Treasurer and Board

  • Laise with outside bookkeeper and provide the required information

  • Review and present monthly Financial Statements to the Board

Drafting grant applications for board review and approval and submitting.

Assist the Board in developing Policies and Procedures that maximize the efficiency of the day-to-day operations of the Society.

 

WORK SCHEDULE & LOCATION:

Typical office Hours: 9:00-2:00

Location: 404-1630 Pandosy St, Kelowna, BC

Our office is part of the Ferguson Land Surveying & Geomatics office space and is located on the fourth floor, accessible by elevator. Pay parking is close by and will be reimbursed.

Managing Director, may on occasion work from other property the Society owns and/or operates such as Benvoulin Heritage Church and Reid Hall or work remotely from a home office; however, there will be no reimbursement for home office expenses.

Work hours average fifteen (15) hours per week. The Managing Director agrees to make him/herself available to the Society to perform the agreed services at times as mutually agreed. It is understood that the Managing Director will keep a record of his/her hours.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Grade 12 graduation and/or graduation from an Administrative Assistant program or equivalent experience.

  • Must be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with QuickBooks is an asset.

  • Personnel management experience.

  • Experience with heritage programs an asset.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work well and effectively with team members, COHS board members and the public.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks and work independently.

  • Flexibility in workweek, as some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Requires a valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle on occasion, in order to show the properties at Benvoulin Park

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

 

PAY and COMPENSATION: range from $25.00 - $30 depending on experience
