'Poppa Dawg' and Sherman 'Tank' Concert this October!

Two Okanagan blues musicians will perform at a COHS fundraising concert at the Benvoulin Heritage Church at the end of October.

Rick ‘Poppa Dawg’ Halisheff and Sherman ‘Tank’ Doucette will be performing on Friday October 27, 2023.

Rick ‘Poppa Dawg’ Halisheff has been a mainstay on the Western Canadian blues scene for over 25 years, making a name for himself based on his strong vocal and guitar abilities as well as being a seasoned songwriter. His use of the ‘talkbox’ was a signature of his sound for many years prompting Tom Hyslop from Blues Revue magazine to comment, “some of the snarkiest wah tone ever waxed” on his 2011 release ‘Same Dog, New Suit’.  He has shared the stage with numerous artists and has released CDs with his band, Dogskin Suit, plus two solo albums. Over the years he has won two local Honour in the Arts awards as well making it to the semi-finals of the 29th International Blues Challenge in 2013 with his band in Memphis. This year, he won the Gonzo Award for the Okanagan’s Best Blues Musician.

Sherman ‘Tank’ Doucette is a harmonica player, vocalist and songwriter based in Kelowna. He has shared the stage with blues legends including John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Sunnyland Slim, Pinetop Perkins, Jim Byrnes and Long John Baldry, has recorded several albums, and has toured extensively across Canada. Doucette grew up surrounded by music. His dad played guitar and banjo, his grandfather played harmonica and fiddle, and the rest of his family sang and danced along. He developed his unique harmonica style, mixing blues classics and original songs with passion and conviction.
